Overview of Grade 9 Math (MPM1D / MPM1P / MPM1DZ / MPM1D3)

Grade 9 students ought to witness an improvement in their academic performance at this juncture. This progression is crucial as it paves the way for a broader array of University and College programs once they reach Grade 12.

The Grade 9 math curriculum encompasses both new and previously encountered topics from elementary school. Fresh additions to the syllabus for Ontario students include Linear Relations and Algebra, while familiar themes include Geometry, Measurement, and Analytic Geometry. Mathematics is a sequential discipline, where today's learning forms the bedrock for future mathematical exploration.

It's imperative for students to establish a solid foundation to confidently tackle more complex and abstract concepts in Grade 10/11, such as Factoring, Radicals, Quadratics, and Trigonometry. To support students in fortifying their understanding and achieving their academic goals, York Region tutors offer reinforcement of challenging concepts, aid in homework and assignments, and provide access to past tests administered by school teachers to familiarize students with test formats.

Additionally, York Region Tutoring offers Grade 9 EQAO tutoring, practice worksheets, and online assistance to further support students in their academic journey.

New Grade 9 Math Curriculum (2021)

The new Grade 9 math curriculum in Ontario, Canada was implemented in September 2021. This new curriculum, announced by Education Minister Stephen Lecce, covers more areas of mathematics and includes lessons on financial literacy and coding. It also eliminated the practice of “streaming”, where students had to choose between “academic” or “applied” math courses.

The new 2020 Ontario Math curriculum is divided into five strands:

  • Number
  • Algebra (and Coding)
  • Data
  • Spatial Sense
  • Financial Literacy

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN OUR LESSONS?

York Region Tutoring Provides

Write Past Tests

If a student is approaching a forthcoming test, we can provide them with a previous test to be completed at home before their upcoming session. Subsequently, during their next class, just before the exam, they can review the test with their tutor. These tests are exclusively sourced from high schools in York Region and other areas in Ontario, serving as the definitive benchmark for students to assess their readiness.

We Come To Class Prepared

York Region Tutors and are equipped with drawing tablets making collaboration simple, efficient and effective. We also offer drawing tablets at a discount for purchase to students who really take to the functionality of the product.

YRDSB-Minded Homework

At the parents' request, following each tutoring session, our tutors can assign homework tailored to address weaknesses and reinforce strengths in students. Additionally, we incorporate homework questions directly extracted from previous tests and quizzes administered by YRDSB school teachers, allowing students to familiarize themselves with potential test questions.
