The Ontario high school physics curriculum offers students an in-depth study of fundamental physics principles, covering topics such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics, equipping them with analytical and problem-solving skills essential for understanding the physical world.
In Grade 11 Physics tutoring, students delve into topics including Kinematics, focusing on linear and projectile motion, Newtonian Dynamics, Energy Transformations, Nuclear Reactions, Mechanical Waves (sound), Electricity, and Magnetism. Various student needs arise in this course, with common challenges observed in Kinematics, Dynamics, and Energy Transformations.
Dynamics often leaves students with lingering misconceptions, as they engage in qualitative and quantitative investigations of net force's correlation with acceleration and mass, sometimes getting caught up in mathematical calculations at the expense of grasping underlying concepts. While prioritizing successful completion of homework and assignments, our tutors emphasize building a solid understanding to tackle more complex, performance-based problems.
Moreover, students encounter applications of trigonometry in solving questions related to non-uniform linear motion in two dimensions, necessitating a strong foundation in Grade 10 Trigonometry concepts. Prior to tutoring the Kinematics unit, we ensure students possess the necessary mathematical skills. While guiding students through homework and assignments using the five Kinematics Equations, we emphasize understanding the derivation of these equations to prevent reliance on rote memorization, which could lead to challenges during tests and exams.

York Region Tutoring urges all students to complete the past tests that we have compiled specifically from YRDSB/YCDSB school teachers from our Past Test Bank. Tests in Grade 11 and 12 math and sciences tend to follow a very strict layout, and so completing them will give students the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses as well as direct their attention to topics that require more attention. Completing past tests also allows students to approach school evaluations with more confidence as they are familiarized with the organization of the test & general nature of questions asked. *Please note: while there are clear trends in the types of questions asked on tests, it is not guaranteed that past test questions will map perfectly onto school evaluations, since test-making is ultimately a subjective endeavor, meaning teachers can and do exercise their creative liberties when writing tests.
